“Étude for a Ghost” – Haiku V

[Originally published as the second half of Infinite Summer.]

41—
Month of solitude
Warm blood, brittle meat of leaves
Drains down scrawny legs

42—
Hum of glass roaches
Uneternal drone of death
My organs slumber

43—
Teeth clatter like pearls
Radiant tendrils of oil
Dissolve my promise

44—
Millennium orb
Heron gestates in the moon
Cradle of seasons

45—
Caressed in autumn
He lies preserved in ice pool,
River mud and twigs

46—
Springtime ovary
Unearthly fruit seep scarlet
Blood lips, harvest crowns

47—
Clay-stained padding feet
We dismantle the valley
With footprints of war

48—
Hallucinogen
Licorice dust spawns discord
Breathing through the mind

49—
Crypt of the witch queen
Infant deaths fuel willow roots
Laughter, toy chimes sound

50—
Where are you hiding?
Suspended in stone ruins
Webs of your own ghost
